Move over, Katie Couric: Another “Today” veteran is looking to make waves in daytime.

On Tuesday, NBCUniversal Domestic Television Distribution announced plans for a new syndicated program hosted by Meredith Vieira.

“The Meredith Vieira Show” will debut in fall 2014 and will be produced out of New York City, with Vieira also serving as executive producer.

“All of us at NBCU are so excited about this new show with Meredith,” said Ted Harbert, NBC Broadcasting chairman, in a news release. “She creates an instant connection with audiences with her smart, quick-witted and down-to-earth style. This entertaining and substantive show will be a great way to reach her loyal daytime fans as well as new ones who will discover why Meredith is one of America’s most loved television personalities.”

“Each day, I hope to accomplish what I call the three H’s: heat, heart and humor,” said Vieira of her plans for the show, which will be taped on a homey set and will “offer an exceptional mix of daytime fun along with feel-good human interest stories from everyday people to celebrity guests.”

Vieira, of course, is no stranger to the daytime talk format. Before replacing Couric on “Today,” she was a co-host of “The View” from 1997 to 2006. She also hosted the syndicated version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” for 11 seasons.

Since leaving her perch at “Today” in 2011 – a departure that led to serious troubles at the once-dominant morning show -- Vieira has continued to serve as a special correspondent for NBC News.
