Lee Daniels says Oprah Winfrey, Common will appear on ‘Empire’
No two ways about it, Fox’s “Empire” is a huge hit. And when the series returns for its second season, it will have two massive guest stars: Oprah Winfrey and Common.
Series co-creator Lee Daniels announced at a screening of the show’s first season finale on Thursday that both stars would be making appearances on the show.
When Access Hollywood asked about the possibility of Winfrey appearing, Daniels said, “Yes. Yeah. She’s gonna be on it.”
As for Common, the recent Oscar winner for his song in the film “Selma” has previously expressed a desire to be on the show. And now Daniels has confirmed that it’s going to happen.
“We’re gonna have a good time,” Daniels told Access Hollywood of Common’s appearance. “You heard that first.”
Daniels and Winfrey have a working relationship going back to when Winfrey signed on to help promote his Sundance hit “Precious.”
“Empire’s” success has been remarkable this year, with the series continuing to grow week after week in the ratings for nine straight weeks. Its penultimate first season episode drew 14.9 million total viewers.
Fans will have to wait for May and Fox’s presentation at the network upfronts to learn where and when the show will return.
