Katie Couric’s return to daytime TV seems to be working out -- her talk show “Katie” has been officially renewed for a second season.

The news came Wednesday from the show’s distributor, Disney-ABC Domestic Television. The show was originally ordered for a two-year deal, so the announcement makes it official.

“Hosting, producing and launching a show from scratch has been challenging but very rewarding,” the former “Today” show host said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to working with our terrific team to build on the success of our first season, and continuing to share compelling stories, explore important topics, and create entertaining television for our audience.”

“Katie” bowed last fall in a crowded daytime talker landscape -- alongside launches from Steve Harvey, Ricki Lake and Jeff Probst -- and has proven to be a steady performer, pulling in a 1.9 rating and nearly 2.5 million viewers.

And the show made headlines recently when it landed the first on-camera interview with Manti Te’o, the Notre Dame football star at the center of a widely reported online girlfriend hoax. The interview produced the largest ratings for “Katie” since its fall launch.

The show has been renewed among its existing stations in over 95% of the country for the 2013-14 season, including the group of stations owned by ABC. And it comes on the heels of original executive producer Jeff Zucker’s departure to run CNN.
