David Letterman’s last ‘Late Show’ guests announced

The guest lineup for David Letterman’s final three episodes of “Late Show” has been revealed, and while there are many long-expected names, there’s still room for some surprises.

Monday night will feature Tom Hanks in his 60th appearance with Letterman. The musical guest will be Eddie Vedder.

On Tuesday, Bill Murray will appear. Murray holds the distinction of being the very first guest on both “Late Show” on CBS and “Late Night” on NBC. This will be Murray’s 44th appearance with Letterman. Murray is the only announced guest on Tuesday’s show, however, leaving plenty of room for others to make an appearance.

On Wednesday, May 20, Letterman’s final show, there are no announced guests. The only thing the network is revealing is that there will be surprises, highlights and the show’s final Top Ten list.

As Letterman approaches his final show, he’s booked big-name guests and has seen bigger ratings than his show has seen in years. Last week’s shows averaged 3.816 million viewers, the biggest audience in four years.

There’s still a question as to whether Jay Leno, who was once a frequent guest on Letterman’s old show before the two had a public falling out over who would host “The Tonight Show” after Johnny Carson’s retirement, would return one last time. Letterman seemed to cool that speculation earlier this week when he told guest Howard Stern that he had turned down an invitation to appear on “The Tonight Show” when Leno was retiring, and he wouldn’t be surprised if Leno did the same.
