Breaking Boise: Idaho governor proclaims Oct. 1 Aaron Paul Day

Boise is crazy about its hometown son, Aaron Paul. Last month more than 700 fans showed up at Boise’s historic Egyptian Theater to get a glimpse of Paul and watch a live stream of the third-to-last episode of Paul’s hit show, “Breaking Bad.”

Soon after that, Idaho’s governor issued a proclamation declaring Oct. 1 “Aaron Paul Sturtevant Day.”

It’s easy to see why Boise is excited about Paul. The only other super-famous Boise resident was also a Paul. Paul Revere (of Paul Revere & the Raiders, not Paul Revere & the Midnight Riders). But that was a long time ago.

In a video called “Breaking Boise” released by Bushmills whiskey, which sponsored Paul’s trip to Boise and the packed screening at the Egyptian, a heavily bearded Paul talks to a group of his old friends about how much he loves Idaho and Boise.

“I feel like I still have that Idaho boy in me,” Paul says. Then he looks out the window at the Egyptian theater where fans are already lining up. “I used to come here as a kid, just always wanting to be in the movies that played here.”

Here’s the text of the official proclamation that will forever change the face of Oct. 1 in Idaho:

WHEREAS, Aaron Paul Sturtevant was born August 27, 1978, in Emmett, Idaho; and

WHEREAS, Aaron realized his passion for acting while attending Centennial High
School in Boise, Idaho; and

WHEREAS, Aaron made his television debut in an episode of “Beverly Hills, 90210” in
1999; and

WHEREAS, “Aaron Paul” first became a household name for his role as “Jesse
Pinkman” on the popular AMC series “Breaking Bad;” and

WHEREAS, Aaron won two Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Supporting Actor in a
Drama Series” for his role in “Breaking Bad” in 2010 and 2012; and

WHEREAS, anyone who watched Aaron Paul’s performance in “Breaking Bad”
witnessed the devastating, tragic impacts of methamphetamine use on individuals, and the
scourge that meth has become to our communities and society; and

WHEREAS, Aaron Paul continues to be an ambassador for the State of Idaho throughout
the nation and is an inspiration to all Idahoans;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, C.L. “BUTCH” OTTER, Governor of the State of Idaho, hereby
proclaim October 1, 2013, as

AARON PAUL STURTEVANT DAY

in Idaho.
