President Obama says real D.C. less exciting than ‘Scandal’

President Obama appeared via remote satellite link on Ellen DeGeneres’ talk show on Thursday to promote signing up for Obamacare, and among the many light topics DeGeneres hit on were the president’s TV viewing habits.

The commander in chief is a noted couch potato, who has confessed to being a fan of “The Wire,” “Breaking Bad” and “Game of Thrones,” among others. First Lady Michelle Obama is a fan of “Scandal,” the soapy Washington-set thriller on ABC. So what does the president think about “Scandal” and the other current D.C. series, “House of Cards”?

While he doesn’t watch “Scandal” and does watch “House of Cards,” he’s got the same reaction for both shows.

“I have to tell you, life in Washington is a little more boring than displayed on the screen,” he said. “The truth of the matter is, if you followed me, most of my day is sitting in a room listening to a bunch of folks in gray suits talking about a whole bunch of stuff that wouldn’t make very good television.”

“That’s what I do, and we make great television,” DeGeneres responded.

“I have to tell you, Ellen, there is not much dancing in the Situation Room,” Obama said.

Notice he said “not much” instead of “absolutely none.” So is it possible that generals and elected officials may cut the rug occasionally, away from the prying eyes of this judgmental world? We may never know.

In February, “Scandal” star Kerry Washington told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show she was “super flattered and honored” by Mrs. Obama’s admitted fandom. She continued, “There are White Houses that I think could identify with some of our story lines, but our current White House, not so much.”
