‘The Newsroom’s’ Alison Pill goes topless on Twitter
Alison Pill, who stars as the constantly jittery Maggie in HBO’s “The Newsroom,” mistakenly tweeted a topless photo of herself on Twitter. Where is Nina Howard of TMI Magazine when you need her?!?
The photo, which was tweeted Wednesday, showed the 26-year-old actress sprawled on a bed wearing nothing but thick-framed glasses and chapped lips. Pill quickly deleted the photo and, rather than having a Maggie-esque panic attack, she addressed the gaffe.
“Yep. That picture happened. Ugh. My tech issues have now reached new heights, apparently. How a deletion turned into a tweet... Apologies,” she wrote.
News of the goof, naturally, caused folks (like our own Joe Flint) to point out that life might imitate art for the female cast of the Aaron Sorkin drama (surely causing Sorkin to say “toldja so!”). The second episode of “The Newsroom,” features a moment in which producer Mackenzie MacHale (Emily Mortimer) mistakenly sends a very personal email to the entire news staff. And you’d think the whole storyline of congressman Anthony Weiner tweeting suggestive photos of himself would also serve as a reminder to Pill that she should be careful when operating a phone.
By Thursday morning, Pill could no longer be mistaken for a porn spam bot. She went back to using Twitter in a less-revealing way, linking to stories on what’s happening in Libya or the U.S. consulate attack. And she’s reaching more people too: since baring her breasts, the actress went from nearly 14,000 followers to more than 21,000.
