Cecily Strong joins ‘Weekend Update’ on ‘Saturday Night Live’
Cecily Strong is getting a promotion - to the “Weekend Update” anchor desk on “Saturday Night Live.”
In her sophomore year on “SNL,” the 29-year-old featured player will join longtime anchor Seth Meyers, who’s planning to leave in mid-season to start hosting NBC’s “Late Night” talk franchise.
“SNL” will premiere its 39th season Sept. 28.

Strong quickly broke through during her first year on the comedy-sketch show, playing such characters as the annoying Girl You Wish You Hadn’t Started a Conversation With at a Party (above) and Kyra, a nasal-voiced talk show host.
“Cecily, from the first show, was right there,” “SNL” executive producer Lorne Michaels told the New York Times, which broke the story. “She exploded.”
