Fox announced Monday that TV everywhere-man Mario Lopez will return as the host of “The X Factor.” But Khloe Kardashian will not.

Lopez joined the other Fox singing competition show last season as host, alongside Kardashian. Despite being at ease in front of the cameras when they’re connected to the E! network, Kardashian couldn’t quite get comfortable in her role as host -- her misgivings were recently chronicled in an episode of “Kourtney & Kim Take Miami.”

“Khloe Kardashian will not be returning to co-host ‘The X Factor,’” read a statement attributed to “X Factor” producers. “We really enjoyed working with her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

Lopez, though, apparently made the cut with “X Factor” producers -- see, all that time spent hosting “Extra” at the Grove has paid off.

“I’m looking forward to returning to ‘The X Factor’ team,” Lopez said in a statement. “We’re coming back stronger and better than ever and I’m excited to check out all the new talent.”

Hosting duos have never fared too well with Fox’s singing competition series. “American Idol” dropped Brian Dunkleman after the first season of the series, leaving Ryan Seacrest as the show’s ambassador. And when “The X Factor” first launched, it was originally slated to have Nicole Scherzinger co-host with Steve Jones, before opting to have Scherzinger take on hosting duties.

“I’m thrilled Mario is back for Season Three of ‘The X Factor,’” said Simon Cowell. “Hosting a live show and keeping the judges -- especially Demi [Lovato] -- in line is not an easy job, but Mario is a pro and we are glad he’s coming back.”

A request for comment from Kardashian’s publicist was not immediately returned.
