‘The Simpsons’ pays tribute to ‘Breaking Bad’

“The Simpsons” will pay tribute to “Breaking Bad” in Sunday’s opening credits--and it seems the AMC drama’s New Mexico drug operation has got nothing on Springfield. [insert B-word-laced, Pinkman-esque statement of excitement since we can’t.]

After the 2011 viral mashup “Breaking Bart” mingled “The Simpsons” and “Breaking Bad,” fans of both shows can now enjoy an bona fide blending of the two. The tribute will give a nod to an assembly sequence from Season 5 of the drug drama, which featured the haunting soundtrack of 1969’s “Crystal Blue Persuasion.”

When it goes through “The Simpsons” machine, Marge takes center stage, cooking up a batch of blue cupcakes (we can only imagine they are 99.1% pure). Through it all, Homer is donning his Heisenberg disguise.

The whole gag ends with “Breaking Bad” stars Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul watching “The Simpsons” from their couch.

It’s a marriage that keeps on giving. “Breaking Bad” leading man Cranston guest voiced on the show last year as a James Bond-type character. The AMC drama is set to conclude this year.
