Roseanne Barr weighs in on ‘The Conners’ series premiere
“Roseanne” spinoff “The Conners” killed off its sharp-tongued matriarch in Tuesday night’s premiere episode. And the character’s maker, Roseanne Barr, has taken to Twitter to weigh in.
The episode revealed that Roseanne Conner had died of an opioid overdose. And Barr, the controversial star who made the character famous, offered her thoughts on how her exit was handled. And it was emphatic:
“I AIN’T DEAD, BITCHES!!!!” Barr tweeted during the show to her 902,000 followers.
For the uninitiated, Barr was fired from the popular revival of “Roseanne” earlier this year after she made a racist comment about President Obama’s former advisor Valerie Jarrett.
Barr and her longtime spiritual advisor Rabbi Shmuley Boteach issued a less forceful official statement regarding the premiere of “The Conners” shortly after the episode aired.
“While we wish the very best for the cast and production crew of ‘The Conners,’ all of whom are deeply dedicated to their craft and were Roseanne’s cherished colleagues, we regret that ABC chose to cancel Roseanne by killing off the Roseanne Conner character,” part of the lengthy statement said. “That it was done through an opioid overdose lent an unnecessary grim and morbid dimension to an otherwise happy family show.”
