‘Westworld’s’ Jimmi Simpson is having a big year on TV
Jimmi Simpson is getting around. He was spotted amid the knotted timelines of the recently wrapped first season of HBO’s “Westworld” on Sunday and then on Tuesday in the fall finale of the weepy NBC drama “This Is Us.”
In the process, Simpson has proved that he could — spoiler alerts! — portray someone talked down from a ledge by Sterling K. Brown, and a man who could start his “Westworld” journey as a white-hat-wearing innocent and, some 30 years later — after exposure to the violent delights of the park — become the villainous Man in Black (portrayed by Ed Harris).
Simpson got his start at the 1999 Williamstown Theatre Festival in Massachusetts — coincidentally alongside Brown — but he may look familiar to viewers of “The Late Show with David Letterman” where, in 2009, he intermittently appeared as “Lyle the Intern.” He also had roles on “Hap and Leonard,” “24,” “House of Cards” and, memorably, as one of the unsettling twin brothers in the McPoyle clan on FX’s “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Last year he also earned raves in L.A. for playing a chimpanzee (without a costume) in the 2015 play “Trevor.”
Look for him in the upcoming thriller from “It Follows” director David Robert Mitchell, “Under the Silver Lake,” which is filming in Los Angeles.
