Oh, that’s funny: Stephen Colbert and ‘The Daily Show’ will broadcast live on election night
If you feel like this election cycle has been one wild and unpredictable reality show on a perpetual loop, rejoice: The end is finally in sight. Tuesday is the long-awaited season finale, otherwise known as election day.
Of course, this polarizing race has been a boon for late-night television hosts, who have made routine segments out of skewering the presidential candidates, their surrogates and even the traditional news coverage surrounding the contest.
It’s no surprise, then, that Showtime and Comedy Central will mark the end of the race with live election night programs that will allow their hosts to comment on the results in real time.
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert was bumped from his regular spot on CBS for its news coverage, but he will broadcast a live special on Showtime. Colbert’s “Late Show” has gone live numerous times during this election season starting with the Republican and Democratic national conventions and after the presidential debates.

Colbert, of course, has been a familiar face for fans of late-night political satire who have watched him cover previous races as his fictional “Daily Show” and “Colbert Report” character. And while he has mostly shed that persona while analyzing this year’s election, he has been a comforting presence in the face of so much anxiety and tumult.
What can fans expect from Colbert’s election special?
“We might have some naked men on set, we were thinking,” Colbert revealed on “CBS This Morning.” “Because it’s Showtime and you can have full-frontal nudity as long as the men don’t look happy about it.”
The other perk of being on premium cable is not worrying about watching his language (or being interrupted by commercials).
Meanwhile, his old stomping grounds, Comedy Central, will feature a special one-hour episode of “The Daily Show with Trevor Noah,” which will air live on both coasts. The show will also be available to stream online and through the network’s app.
Following “The Daily Show,” the network will air the first-ever live episode of “@midnight with Chris Hardwick,” which will feature panelists Whitney Cummings, Ron Funches and Paul F. Tompkins.
In a not-so-live special, “Full Frontal with Samantha Bee” will have a new episode on Wednesday, in addition to her regularly scheduled program on Monday.
Colbert’s election night special and the live “Daily Show” episode will air at 8 p.m. PST.
