Stage work

Slater made his Broadway debut in 1980 playing Winthrop Paroo in a revival of “The Music Man.” He has returned to the stage periodically throughout his career, including a starring role in a 2005 Broadway revival of “The Glass Menagerie” with Jessica Lange (pictured) and a production of “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” in London’s West End.  (Paul Kolnik / Associated Press)

Love life

Slater has had his ups and downs with romance. In the 1990s, girlfriend Nina Huang sued him for palimony after their five-year courtship ended. In 2000, he married TV journalist Ryan Haddon. The couple had two children before separating in 2004. The tabloids took notice again in 2006, when he and Sharon Stone (pictured) announced their relationship. Trouble with the law

Slater’s rap sheet has a few dings, including a drunk driving arrest in 1989 that got him 10 days in the can and an arrest in 1997 for assaulting then-girlfriend Michelle Jonas (for which he spent time in jail and rehab).
