MTV VMAs: The highlights of the night, told in tweets
On Sunday night the annual MTV Video Music Awards let loose with a chaotic hallucination of a ceremony that starred, among others, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and Kanye West. Chances are you'll be seeing highlights for the rest of the week. Do you need to? Perhaps not. Below, the best parts of the show captured in a few choice tweets.
Taylor Swift arrived with her entourage.
Comedian Billy Eichner wasn't impressed.
Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj buried the hatchet.
Macklemore did an action shot in front of the Orpheum Theatre.
Kanye West wasn't impressed.
Nicki Minaj furthered her beef with Miley Cyrus with a ice-queen stare.
Twitter freaked out.
Miley Cyrus' reaction seemed unscripted.
Essayist Roxane Gay wasn't impressed.
Justin Bieber rocked, then wept.
By mid-show, more drama had occurred onstage than at all the Grammy ceremonies combined.
Many people didn't care.
In the middle of the ceremony, Twitter learned of the passing of a horror film legend.
Others felt as though they were enduring a Swiftian brand of horror.
Really, though, most of us were waiting for Kanye West to speak.
Until he made a landmark announcement ...
... and in doing so invited a comparison with another opinionated candidate.
But then he kept going.
Miley Cyrus performed, then announced her new album.
And then it was over.
