Listen to Lady Gaga’s new song ‘Venus’
Did Lady Gaga write “Venus” just so she could make a joke about Uranus?
The dance-pop superstar released the new song late Sunday, and beyond its mid-level solar-system wordplay, Pop & Hiss isn’t hearing much at work here.
The latest sampling from next month’s “Artpop” album, “Venus” finds Lady Gaga layering her bedroom entreaties over a throbbing disco-glam groove that feels like a throwback to her “Just Dance” days; it’s fun, kind of, but hardly extraordinary.
The song pales especially in comparison to “Do What U Want,” the killer electro-soul collaboration with R. Kelly that she put out last week. That tune, along with the still-satisfying “Applause,” had us excited about “Artpop,” due Nov. 11.
But “Venus” feels pretty underwhelming. Listen below -- and join us in awaiting the promisingly titled “Sexxx Dreams.”
