Jackson Browne, two Heartbreakers, others join in Dec. 20 benefit
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell is teaming with L.A. singer-songwriter Jonathan Wilson to spearhead the first Merry Minstrel Musical Circus holiday benefit show on Dec. 20 at the Troubadour in West Hollywood.
They will be joined by Jackson Browne, Bob Weir, another member of the Heartbreakers (keyboardist Benmont Tench) and other guests still to be confirmed at the event, for which proceeds will benefit Little Kids Rock and the Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund.
Wilson recently shared the stage with Browne at another benefit show for radio station KCSN-FM (88.5) at Cal State Northridge. Wilson and his band toured with Petty during the summer, and that’s when Wilson and Campbell started talking about putting on a holiday show similar to weekly jam sessions Wilson held at his home studio when he lived in Laurel Canyon.
The Merry Minstrel Musical Circus, presented by KCRW-FM (89.9), is slated to start at 7:30 p.m. and is an all ages event. Tickets are $35. Little Kids Rock is the national nonprofit organization that supports music education in public schools, while the Tazzy Animal Rescue Fund is an L.A.-based operation that focuses on animals of advanced age or with serious medical problems.
