Grammys 2013: Frank Ocean, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5 added to lineup

Finally, some Frank Ocean news we can truly care about this week. The breakout singer-songwriter is the latest performer confirmed to grace the Grammys stage next month, the Recording Academy announced Thursday.

Ocean’s critically acclaimed breakthrough, “Channel Orange,” helped the singer become one of the year’s leading nominees. He is up for six awards, including record and album of the year.

Earlier this week, Ocean found himself in a bit of a controversy after law authorities said he got into a scuffle with fellow R&B; artist Chris Brown over a parking space at a West Hollywood recording studio. Officials said that on Sunday night, L.A. County sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of half a dozen men fighting at the recording studio.

According to officials, witnesses said that the fight was over quickly and that Brown and Ocean had been separated. A heap of headlines followed (Ocean wants Brown prosecuted, Brown says he didn’t throw a punch, and so on). Ocean took to Twitter and said that not only had he been jumped by Brown but that he had cut his hand and that he couldn’t “play with two hands” at the Grammys.

Here’s hoping Ocean heals up -- and that the two act like adults, considering they are both up for an urban contemporary album award alongside Miguel. With a little luck, Ocean will even deliver a defining performance, hopefully of standout track “Forrest Gump.”

Alicia Keys was also part of Thursday’s announcement, but viewers can expect the 14-time Grammy winner pairing up with current nominees Maroon 5 for one of those “special” mash-up duets the telecast loves so much (hey, remember when Keys did that awkward duet with a hologram of Frank Sinatra?).

Previously announced performers include Dierks Bentley and Miranda Lambert, the Black Keys, Fun., the Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Jack White, Elton John and Ed Sheeran and the anticipated musical return of Justin Timberlake.

CBS will broadcast the Grammys live on Feb. 10, except for the West Coast, where they will air at 8 p.m.
