Beyonce, Nicki Minaj’s ‘Feeling Myself’ proves their Coachella better than ours
What did you do at Coachella this year? Splurge on a few imported beers and go hoarse while AC/DC crunched out "Highway to Hell"? Snuck a VIP pass off a friend to spend the afternoon stalking Father John Misty? Try and text Drake for three days straight while pondering the unknowable nature of fame?
Whatever it was, it was not as fun as what Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj were up to.
The two powerhouse vocalists and bon vivants have a new video for Minaj's single "Feeling Myself," (warning: crude lyrics) a standout from her most recent LP "The Pinkprint." The song was one of our favorites: a minimal, synth-bending trap number that takes the get-yours spirit of Tweet's "Oops (Oh My)" while still sounding stoned and spooky.
But for Coachella-goers, the video is so subversively appealing because it was all shot in and around the festival. To realize that you were so enticingly close to the house where all this took place!
Nicki and Bey did all the same things you did that week, just infinitely more-fun versions of them - pop champagne and float around the pool in dolphin inner tubes, make messes cooking in a rented modernist kitchen, get decked out in goofy flower crowns and Burning Man tiaras and faux football jerseys.
It's all so familiar...and yet...so much...better...
The video was released as a Tidal exclusive, but by now it's making rounds off the service. If you want to relive a much-improved version of your own summer vacation from a month ago, it's very recommended.
Unless, that is, you're the type of Coachellan to lay out alone by the grotty communal pool of your Air BnB'ed condo in Rancho Mirage, stare at the desert sky at 4 a.m. and wonder if your life has actually amounted to anything, because you know deep in your heart that, somewhere, a better party is happening somewhere just over the mountain where pleasure and youth springs eternal and yet are eternally out of reach for you.
Because yep, there was one.
