De La Soul announces that David Byrne and Damon Albarn will have cameos on new album
When the beloved golden-era hip-hop group De La Soul takes the stage at Long Beach’s Music Tastes Good Festival on Sept. 23-25, they’ll have a new album in tow. And after seeing the guest list on it, who knows who might be joining them.
The band members had announced an Aug. 26 release date for their new LP “And the Anonymous Nobody...,” and suggested it would be cameo-packed.
The track list includes A-lists guests David Byrne, Damon Albarn (who collaborated with the group in Gorillaz), Usher, Snoop Dogg, Estelle, Jill Scott, 2 Chainz and Little Dragon.
That’s quite a roster for an album that the band funded on Kickstarter with a take of $600,000. “Anonymous” is De La Soul’s first LP since 2004’s “The Grind Date.”
The trio is streaming their latest release, the EP “For Your Pain and Suffering,” which features one album track and some extras. Their Long Beach set was already one to watch for, and this just made it even more of a must-see.
