Beyoncé to play Dodger Stadium in September
Beyoncé is only a few stops into her Formation World Tour, and the superstar has already announced additional dates.
Citing demand — because, who isn’t trying to snag a ticket to Bey’s massive stadium show? — Live Nation and the singer’s Parkwood Entertainment have added extra shows to the North American leg of the tour.
The new shows, set for September and October, will follow the European leg of the trek.
An additional seven shows were added, as well as the makeup date of her postponed Nashville show that was originally scheduled for May 5.
Among the new stops is a return to L.A., where she will play Dodger Stadium for the first time, on Sept. 14 (she will play the Rose Bowl on May 14 for the show’s first leg).
Beyoncé added a third New York-area show, performing in East Rutherford, N.J., as well as second shows in Santa Clara, Calif.; Houston; Atlanta; and Philadelphia.
The singer announced her latest world tour immediately after her scene-stealing performance at Super Bowl 50’s halftime show alongside Coldplay, Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson.
Beyoncé’s announcement came the day after she surprise released her brazen single “Formation” directly to Tidal and the tour sold out without so much as a release date or details of the album that it would support (though the singer arguably doesn’t need a new album to tour, given her demand).
Her Formation Tour launched late last month, just days after the surprise release of her latest album, “Lemonade,” which she dropped during the premiere of the hourlong visual film tied to the album on HBO.
Like the tour, her album is doing blockbuster numbers: “Lemonade” debuted at No. 1, selling 653,000 units (485,000 of which were pure album sales) and making her the first artist to ever top the list with her first six albums; and all 12 of its tracks debuted consecutively on the Billboard Hot 100, breaking the record for a female artist (Taylor Swift set the record in 2010 with 11 tracks from her “Speak Now” album).
Tickets for all performances go on sale May 13 though Ticketmaster. In the immortal words of the late Messy Mya that grace the opening of “Formation,” Beyoncé’s back by popular demand.
