‘Star Wars: Episode VII’ cast has Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, ‘Big 3’

“Star Wars” fans may have sensed a disturbance in the Force: The cast of “Episode VII” has officially been announced.

The cast includes franchise newcomers John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Max von Sydow, along with “Star Wars” veterans Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker.

The cast was announced on the “Star Wars” website.

Boyega (“Attack the Block”) and Driver (TV’s “Girls”) had previously been linked to the project, with Boyega in line to play a Jedi apprentice and Driver to play a Darth Vader-like villain.

The “big three” of Ford, Fisher and Hamill had been widely expected to reprise their roles as Han Solo, Princess Leia and Luke Skywalker.

Director J.J. Abrams said in a statement, “It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud.”

“Episode VII” is the first of a trilogy planned by Disney, which acquired Lucasfilm. Abrams is directing from a script he wrote with Lawrence Kasdan (“The Empire Strikes Back,” “Return of the Jedi”) that Michael Arndt initially contributed to.

“Star Wars: Episode VII” will hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
