‘Pitch Perfect 3’ is set for 2017; Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson will return
Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson will be back in harmony in “Pitch Perfect 3.”
Universal Pictures confirmed the duo’s return in an announcement that the third film in the music-driven comedy franchise has been scheduled for release July 21, 2017.
Kendrick took to social media to celebrate the news, posting a selfie with the caption “Happening #3.”
Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman (Banks’ husband) and Paul Brooks will return to produce the threequel. Banks directed “Pitch Perfect 2,” but it is not yet known whether she will helm “3.” Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two films, is in early talks to reprise her duties.
Since opening in May, “Pitch Perfect 2” has been a box office hit, grossing nearly $260 million worldwide on a modest $29-million budget. With solid reviews and an A-minus CinemaScore, the sequel surpassed the first film’s entire domestic gross ($65 million) in its opening weekend.
On its newly announced date, “Pitch Perfect 3” is scheduled to open opposite an untitled DreamWorks animated movie.
