Oscars 2014: Daniel Day-Lewis, Jennifer Lawrence to present

The Academy Awards’ reigning best actor, Daniel Day-Lewis, and best actress, Jennifer Lawrence, will join this year’s ceremony as presenters, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced.

Day-Lewis is a three-time Oscar winner, most recently for his role as the 16th president in the Steven Spielberg-directed historical drama “Lincoln.” He has been nominated for five Oscars over the course of his career, all for lead actor.

Lawrence, who won the lead actress trophy last year for her performance as a troubled young widow in the David O. Russell drama “Silver Linings Playbook,” will be doing double duty this year as a presenter and a nominee.

With her recent nomination for supporting actress for “American Hustle,” Lawrence, 23, became the youngest three-time acting nominee in Oscar history. If she wins, she will become the youngest two-time winner ever. A win would also make her the first actress to claim back-to-back Oscars since Katharine Hepburn accomplished that feat in the late 1960s.

Having the previous year’s acting winners bestow trophies on the new champs is a long-standing Oscar tradition, but Day-Lewis in particular has a reputation for reclusiveness. In 2009, a year after winning for “There Will Be Blood,” he was a no-show at the ceremony, prompting a bit of a kerfuffle. No need to worry this year.

The Academy Awards will be held March 2 and broadcast on ABC.
