MMA star Ronda Rousey to play herself in biopic
Looking to put Hollywood in a hammerlock, mixed martial artist and aspiring action heroine Ronda Rousey has found her next big-screen role: Ronda Rousey.
Paramount Pictures has acquired film rights to Rousey’s memoir, “My Fight/Your Fight,” with the UFC women’s bantamweight champion on board to play herself, a studio spokeswoman confirmed to The Times. Variety first reported the news.
Rousey, 28, has been in the news after scoring a decisive victory over previously unbeaten challenger Bethe Correia, knocking her out in just 34 seconds Saturday night in Brazil.

In addition to being one of the biggest names in mixed martial arts, Rousey has been branching out into acting with roles in “The Expendables 3,” “Furious 7,” “Entourage” and the upcoming “Mile 22.” So far Rousey has appeared in supporting roles, so it’s still an open question whether she can carry a movie with the same ease she shows when clamping down an armbar.
Mark Bomback (“Dawn of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Wolverine”) will adapt Rousey’s book, which she wrote with her journalist sister, Maria Burns Ortiz. Published in May, “My Fight” recounts her struggles and successes inside and outside the ring. Mary Parent is producing the film version along with Rousey.
