Angelina Jolie Pitt’s ‘By the Sea’ to open the AFI Fest on Nov. 5
The American Film Institute announced Thursday that the AFI Fest’s opening-night presentation will be the world premiere of “By the Sea.”
The film, which is set to screen Nov. 5 at the TCL Chinese Theatre, stars Angelina Jolie Pitt -- who also wrote, produced and directed the film -- and her husband and fellow producer, Brad Pitt.
“Time and again, Angelina Jolie Pitt has proved herself an artist of the highest caliber,” Bob Gazzale, AFI president and chief executive, said in a statement Thursday. “It is an honor for AFI to celebrate her latest story with its world premiere -- and in doing so, to shine a proper light upon her boundless creative energies as an actor, director, writer and producer. “

Jolie Pitt added in a statement: “AFI has long supported the boldness and experimentation that accompanies provocative cinema.”
“By the Sea,” which is scheduled for release on Nov. 13, revolves around a writer and his wife who arrive at a seaside resort in 1970s France with their marriage apparently in peril. The film also stars Melanie Laurent and Melvil Poupaud.
The 29th edition of the AFI Festival is scheduled for Nov. 5-12 at various theaters in Hollywood. The full lineup and schedule will be announced in October. For more information go to AFI’s website.
