Amy Poehler, Tina Fey to put on a sister act in comedy ‘The Nest’

Golden Globes co-hosts and BFFs Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are set to reunite on the big screen for the upcoming Universal comedy “The Nest,” according to a Showbiz 411 report.

Poehler and Fey will play adult sisters who suddenly learn that their parents have put their house up for sale to move into a condo. With the deal about to close, the two siblings decide to spend one last wild weekend at home.

Fey, who has been trying to up her film game since “30 Rock” went off the air last year, was previously announced as a star and producer. Poehler is set to join her in both capacities, the report said.

“Pitch Perfect” helmer Jason Moore will direct the movie from a script by Paula Pell, who worked with Fey and Poehler on “Saturday Night Live.” Production is scheduled to begin in June in New York.

Fey and Poehler have developed strong chemistry on the screen in recent years and solidified a reputation as one of the premiere modern comedy teams. The pair slayed as Globes hosts the past two years, earning praise from critics and viewers and drawing an average of 20.9 million viewers at the most recent ceremony in January, the biggest audience for the show in a decade. The two will reprise their hosting duties in 2015.

They also served as cast members on “SNL” at the same time, from 2001 to 2006, and have appeared together twice on the big screen, in “Mean Girls” and Baby Mama.”

“Mean Girls” has become something of a cult classic, though the film featured Fey and Poehler in supporting roles. (Fey also wrote the script.)

In 2008, “Baby Mama” put them front and center, with Fey playing a career-minded woman who wants to have a baby and Poehler as her trailer-park surrogate. Though the film earned lukewarm reviews, it took in a respectable $60 million and established some modest box-office appeal for the duo and was clearly also a lark for them to work on. It was only a matter of time before they returned to the, er, nest.
