So what all goes into those 6-by-9-inch card and envelope sets announcing the Oscar winners? Here’s a by-the-numbers look:
2 — Number of people who know all the winners before the broadcast
24 — Number of awards categories
72 — Number of envelopes (three sets for each category)
363 — Nominee cards, three sets for each of the 121 total nominations (most categories have five nominees, with a couple of exceptions)
110 — Man-hours to make each complete envelope
4 — Number of ounces per each sealed envelope
40 — Yards of red satin ribbon used to adorn the red adhesive PricewaterhouseCoopers seal
