Joan Rivers fires back about Gwyneth Paltrow’s Botox jab
Hey, Gwyneth Paltrow, Joan Rivers isn’t offended by your Botox gibe.
Speaking to Harper’s Bazaar, Paltrow, 40, an organic products and fitness advocate, recently said that there was a very specific reason she’s staying away from one cosmetic procedure. And it happened to be the host of E!’s “Fashion Police.”
“I would be scared to go under the knife, but you know, talk to me when I’m 50. I’ll try anything,” Paltrow said. “Except I won’t do Botox again, because I looked crazy. I looked like Joan Rivers!”
But the comedian-turned-fashion maven -- whose sharp tongue has most recently called Adele fat and likened Heidi Klum to a Nazi -- didn’t seem to be offended. Actually, she’s taking the relatively mild jab in comically poised stride.
“First reaction: ‘Ooh, she watches ‘Fashion Police!” Rivers told People. “It just made me laugh. She says Botox made her scary like Joan Rivers? She should see what I look like without Botox. That’s really scary.”
Rivers also echoed the sentiment about the briefly debilitating injections on her Twitter account.
The wisecracking 79-year-old told the mag that she called them to give her statement rather than writing it in because she had “so much Botox in my thumbs, I can’t type.”
Rivers, an advocate of keeping up appearances, has never hidden her penchant for cosmetic procedures.
“I’ve always been open about what I do, because I want [women] to be able to get Botox and not look like a Sharpei,” she added. “[Lying about having work done] is such a put-down to women. It says to the average woman: ‘I’m beautifully naturally and you’re not.’”
But since Paltrow is still working on “finding the balance between cigarettes and tofu,” we’re making a a mental note to check in with her when she’s 79 to see what procedures she’s tried by then.
