Michael Madsen out of hospital after DUI arrest in Malibu
Michael Madsen has been released from the hospital after spending the night there following an afternoon arrest on suspicion of DUI, his attorney said Thursday.
Madsen was popped around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday after a citizen reported a possible drunk driver weaving in lanes on Pacific Coast Highway, according to L.A. Now. He was taken to the hospital after complaining of an undisclosed medical problem.
Preliminary results of a field sobriety test showed that he had a blood alcohol level of 0.21%, almost three times the legal limit of 0.08%, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore said.
“Michael has been on prescription medication that easily could have made him look to be under the influence and caused him to fail the sobriety test,” attorney Perry Wander told the Associated Press on Thursday.
The “Reservoir Dogs” actor was pulled over behind the wheel of a not-so-subtle, bright-red classic Pontiac GTO with flames painted on the sides. The car was towed away on a flatbed truck, according to TMZ.
Madsen was arrested in March at his Malibu home on suspicion of child cruelty after an allegedly drunken fight with his teenage son, but the D.A. declined to prosecute the case, citing insufficient evidence.
