Five reasons Katie Holmes is having the best September ever
We’re barely a week into September, and Katie Holmes is nailing it.
The actress, who made her first official public appearance since divorcing Tom Cruise on Wednesday, is preparing to introduce herself as a designer at New York Fashion Week and has announced a lucrative new cosmetics deal.
Despite the intense focus on her personal life, and the throng of paparazzi in her way as she attempts to navigate a new city with daughter Suri, here are five reasons why Katie is having the best September ever:
She’s out of hiding: Trips to Whole Foods and quality time with her tot have been well documented, but Holmes has avoided the social circuit. The actress backed out of a July appearance at a gala for the Dizzy Feet Foundation, for which she serves as board member, so as to not let her divorce proceedings detract from the event.
Not anymore. Holmes showed up at the the Style Awards at Lincoln Center on Wednesday evening to present her pal Carolina Herrera with designer of the year. Seated with Elle magazine editor Joe Zee and “Smash” star Katherine McPhee, Holmes looked chic and confident.
She’s bringing home the bacon: Holmes has been announced as the first-ever face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics. She’ll appear in a spring advertising campaign, and come fall you’ll see Katie-branded capsule collections for the brand. She’ll take a reported $2 million to $3 million for her efforts. She’ll also head back to Broadway this fall in “Dead Accounts.”

She’s humbling herself before the fashion community: Katie will trot out her collection Holmes + Yang for the first time at the tents at Lincoln Center, a big move for the legitimacy of her fledgling label with stylist Jeanne Yang. And she’s learning that it can be a big compromise. In shopping their collection to buyers, Holmes took a life lesson in patience.
“When you go in and you show your clothing, you think that they’re going to buy the whole collection,” she told Women’s Wear Daily. “And when they don’t, you’re like, ‘What do you mean? It all goes together. So what do we do with this?’...but I think that’s kind of a life thing — ‘What, you don’t want all of me?’”
She’s not afraid: New ventures in her work, and perhaps her personal life, don’t intimidate her. Holmes also told WWD that she’s “not afraid to fail,” adding “it’s usually the people who haven’t tried who are the naysayers.”
And lastly: She’s managed to avoid all of this.
