Katie Holmes did the deed, filing for divorce from Tom Cruise
Katie Holmes was the one who pulled the trigger on her nearly 6-year-old marriage, setting Tom Cruise up for his third divorce in a little more than two decades.
“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children,” Amanda Lundberg, Cruise’s rep, said Friday.
“Please allow them their privacy to work this out.”
Holmes reportedly filed papers anonymously in New York on Thursday, according to TMZ, which said the actress is seeking sole legal and “primary residential” custody of Suri, her 6-year-old daughter with the “Rock of Ages” star.

If that plays out — and it could get ugly, if Cruise were to fight it — that’s got to sting for a guy who brought his youngest child as his date when he was honored recently by the Friars Club and wore a jacket from his wife’s clothing line to the recent “Rock of Ages” premiere in London, where he gushed, “Nothing’s more important than my wife, my children.
“She’s an amazing woman, and I have amazing kids.… I feel very lucky.”
Cruise and Mimi Rogers wed in 1987 and finalized their divorce in 1990. He and Nicole Kidman, who adopted two children together, were married in 1990 and divorced in 2001.
