Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ concept art confirms the return of this classic ‘Aliens’ character
In January, "Chappie" and "District 9" director Neill Blomkamp unvieled a host of secret "Alien"- inspired concept art he was puttering around with. No surprise here, the Internet went completely mental over these designs of Sigourney Weaver back in the Xenomorph saddle again. Shortly after, the director announced that his "Alien" vision would be his next movie project after all. Flash-forward to today and a brand new bit of concept art that only seems to confirm the return of a classic "Aliens" character.
The first batch of concept art released in January has been suspiciously deleted from the director's Instagram account, however a new still has just popped up. The caption is a simple update: "#alien going very well. Love this project," but the art itself speaks volumes.
On the left is Sigourney Weaver, no doubt reprising her role as Ellen Ripley but to the right appears to be a not-so-dead Cpl. Dwayne Hicks from "Aliens" (played by Michael Biehn). This character was unceremoniously killed off in "Aliens 3" off-camera. But the Blomkamp concept art is hinting that perhaps Hicks survived, injured, but alive.
Even though we cannot prove that this character is undeniably Hicks, the past released concept art (now deleted from the director's Instagram) identified the disfigured character as #Hicks. So if this isn't Hicks we'll eat our Sunday bonnet.
Details on the movie itself remain scarce, but fingers crossed Hicks isn't the only returning character. Fingers crossed that beloved "Aliens" andriod Bishop returns, and if Blomkamp is bringing people back from the dead, why not Bill Paxton's Pvt. Hudson?
