First look at Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’ shows David Tennant as the Purple Man, sans purple skin
Marvel is ramping up the buzz for its latest Netflix series addition, the female-led superhero series “Jessica Jones” based on the brutal comic series “Alias.” And this new batch of images gives the audience a good look at David Tennant as Kilgrave, a.k.a. the Purple Man.
In an interesting twist -- and possibly something to make the serious material from the adapted more palatable -- the Purple Man is not actually purple.
The story (based on the books by Brian Michael Bendis) is centered on title character Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), who hangs up her superhero cape after a tragic experience and rebuilds her life in New York City as a personal detective. Naturally, she keeps getting pulled back into the superhero underworld, despite her desire for isolation from it all.
In a brilliant casting move, Tennant plays bad guy Kilgrave, a loathed villain in the Marvelverse. It should be interesting to see how fans react to this beloved “Doctor Who” figure when he gets into the horror that is the Purple Man (a supervillain who can make anyone do anything with his mind, this also causes his skin to be purple, except there’s no purple here).
Also in this cast are Mike Colter as Luke Cage, Rachael Taylor as Trish Walker and the “Matrix’s” Carrie-Anne Moss, Eka Darville, Erin Moriarty and Wil Traval.
The entire season will premiere in one giant release on Netflix on Nov. 20.
