The animated series “Futurama,” (created by “The Simpsons’” Matt Groening and developed by David X. Cohen) is set in the year 2999. In this new future, humans live among robots, cyclops folk and lobster people. A fun premise for an illustrated show, but slightly horrifying/awe-inspiring when brought to life. Which is exactly what happened here.

Fan-O-Rama presents live action "Futurama"

The folks at Fanorama built a “fan trailer” re-creating this cartoon world in the very real reality. According to their website: "In the year 2014 one man, Dan Lanigan, in addition to other men, and some women, set out on a quest to become the first person in his family to create a live-action Futurama fan film. He is now regarded by most of his immediate kin as the foremost authority on the subject. This is his story."

The trailer for the fan film dropped the week of Comic-Con, and the props that helped bring this future fantasy into reality are on display on the showroom floor.

It’s really a mix of impressive talent with a dash of horrifying uncanny valley style.
