‘Ghostbusters’: Chris Hemsworth cast as receptionist in female-led reboot
"Thor's" Chris Hemsworth just landed a role in a different high-profile franchise: He'll play the receptionist in the female-led reboot of "Ghostbusters."
Director Paul Feig posted a tweet Wednesday afternoon hinting at the selection.
The news was confirmed Wednesday by a person familiar with the production who asked not to be named because she was not authorized to speak about it.
The brawny Hemsworth, an action star who has portrayed Thor in the Marvel movies, has been branching out into comedy. In addition to the "Ghostbusters" part, he has a role in the upcoming installment of the “Vacation” franchise.
Hemsworth’s representatives did not immediately return calls for comment.
Feig's "Ghostbusters" reboot will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon as the title characters.
In the original two “Ghostbusters” movies and their spin-offs, the team's receptionist was the nasally, sometimes testy Janine Melnitz, played in the films by Annie Potts.
Not many details are known about the reboot, but Feig is writing the new film with "The Heat" scribe Katie Dippold, with an eye toward shooting this summer in New York. The movie is set to hit theaters July 22, 2016.
A male-led follow-up is also in the works, with "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" directors Anthony and Joe Russo, "Iron Man 3" screenwriter Drew Pearce and "21 Jump Street" star Channing Tatum linked to the project.
