The new Han Solo will reportedly be played by Alden Ehrenreich
“Star Wars” has found its new smuggler, according to reports that actor Alden Ehrenreich will be playing young Han Solo in the spinoff “Star Wars” film.
Deadline and Variety reported Thursday that Ehrenreich is past final negotiations for the role of baby Solo and is already confirmed for the part. The studio declined comment on the casting.
Spearheaded by “The Lego Movie” directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the untitled anthology film has a release date of May 25, 2018. The picture will be stand-alone feature that doesn’t necessarily affect the canon of the ongoing episodic movies.
Details are scarce on the project. However, on Wednesday Miller tweeted an image of the classic Solo weapon, the blaster. A possible set picture or sneak peek at the preproduction? It’s anyone’s guess.
As for Ehrenreich, should you have any concern of the actor’s comedic chops, please direct yourself to the “Hail, Caesar” trailer below, in which Ehrenreich and Ralph Fiennes dominate the clips. It’s magic.
Ehrenreich got his first big boost as a romantic lead in “Beautiful Creatures,” but that didn’t launch his career; he’s been turning heads for years with his work on indie films. Here’s hoping he’s ready to shoot first.
