Tameka Raymond speaks out about son Usher V’s near drowning
Tameka Raymond doesn’t blame ex-husband Usher for the Aug. 5 near-drowning of their son Usher Raymond V. But she was angry, that’s for sure.
So she said Wednesday on “Good Morning America.”
“I was mad because I was like, ‘How did this happen? Who was watching him. Why was my son under water for nearly three minutes?’ ” she said, adding that never have her children been injured while on her watch.

Getting the phone call was a shock as well — one that sent her mind into overdrive recalling last year’s boating accident that resulted in the death of Kile Glover, her 11-year-old son from another marriage.
“I was at a dental appointment,” Raymond said, “and [Usher] doesn’t call me regularly, so when I saw his number come up I immediately jumped up because I figured, he has the boys, I need to get this.”
Five-year-old Usher V, his arm bandaged where it got stuck in the pool drain, was released from the hospital in time to attend school orientation Monday, where he was seen by his mother, the Associated Press reported.
And though Dad kept primary custody after an emergency hearing requested by Mom was held Friday, it’s not the end of the battle. According to ABC, another hearing has been set for the end of this month. What’s she fighting for?
“I’d like to have my first right of refusal, which means that when he is not present, the kids come home to their mom,” Raymond said. “They don’t stay home with the nanny and watch whatever show he’s on -- they come home to their mother.”
“I had to see on Instagram that my 4-year-old [Naviyd] lost his first tooth. That’s my baby, you know? Things that are precious moments, milestone moments, I’m just missing them,” she said.
Still, she said, she doesn’t hate her ex.
“He is the father of my children and I love my kids more than life itself.”
