Susan Sarandon posted a throwback-themed selfie Thursday on Twitter, re-creating a famous detail from the movie “Thelma & Louise” and reminding the world that the selfie definitely wasn’t born yesterday.

“Inventors of the #selfie at it again. #ThelmaAndLouise,” the actress captioned the image, which was taken at the Hollywood Reporter’s cover shoot for Hollywood’s 100 Favorite Films. The photo features a new picture of Sarandon and Geena Davis together, juxtaposed with the film’s famous Polaroid of the two in character at the start of their ill-fated road trip.

Yes, Justin Bieber, the selfie actually existed before you were born.

“Thelma & Louise” -- which also introduced audiences to a very hot, twentysomething Brad Pitt -- was a critical and commercial success, earning lead actress Oscar nominations for both Sarandon and Davis. In his 1991 review, The Times’ film critic Kenneth Turan noted the importance of the film’s female leads.

“Though both Geena Davis and Susan Sarandon have had their share of memorable parts before, the intoxication and challenge they felt at being handed what may turn out to be the most satisfying women’s roles of the year is palpable and informs everything they do,” he wrote.

Plus, selfie.

Sarandon, 67, will appear next on the big screen in Melissa McCarthy’s summer comedy “Tammy,” which hits theaters July 2. Meanwhile, Davis, 58, will return to cinemas in the 2015 comedy “Me Him Her.”
