Shakira, Gerard Pique confirm they’re expecting baby No. 2
Shakira, Shakira! The singer and her boyfriend, Gerard Pique, are expecting their second child.
The pregnant “Voice” mentor announced the news in the Spanish edition of Cosmopolitan, saying, “Pues sí, la verdad es que sí, estoy embarazada.” (Yes, it’s true, I’m pregnant.)
Then she took to Twitter on Thursday to make the announcement in her native tongue and in English.
“Yes, we are expecting our second baby!! Thank you all for your well wishes!” the 37-year-old tweeted. Pique, 27, a defender for Spain’s national soccer team, retweeted his lady love’s news.
The Colombian-Lebanese folk singer-turned-international pop star, whose full name is Shakira Mebarak, and Pique welcomed their son Milan Pique Mebarak in January 2013.
The handsome couple met back in 2010 when the singer was promoting her World Cup anthem “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa).”
In July, the UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador told the Associated Press that she “will never forget that I met the love of my life at the World Cup.”
“If it wasn’t for the World Cup, my son Milan would not be here,” she added before performing her latest World Cup song, “La La La (Brazil 2014),” at the final match.
It’s unclear when the due date is or how far along the singer is in the pregnancy, but it’s probably fair to say that Shakira is past the 12-week mark and into the “safe zone.” Before 12 weeks, pregnancies are considered risky and the likelihood of a miscarriage is much higher, so expectant moms usually wait until then to publicly share the news.
And let’s be honest, hips usually don’t lie.
