Singer Ricky Martin splits with boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella
Ricky Martin and boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez Abella have split.
“Ricky and Carlos have mutually agreed to end their relationship but continue to be united by friendship and their shared experiences,” a rep for the singer told several news outlets in a statement Thursday.
The Latin singer, 42, and his ex have been parents to 5-year-old twins, Matteo and Valentino, who were born in August 2008 via surrogate. The couple started dating in early 2008, and Martin came out to the public in 2010.

Just before the New Year, Martin appeared to hint at the breakup on Twitter.
“Changes oh changes,” he tweeted, adding, “So, you are waiting to be ready??? Watch out, you can be waiting all your life. #GODoit ;0)”
On New Year’s Eve, Martin showed up solo to his performance at the Moon Palace Golf & Spa Resort in Cancun, Us Weekly reported.
Distance may have been the breakup catalyst, a source told People in November.

“They’ve spent very little time together and have grown apart,” the source said. “They’ve been on the outs for a while now.”
The Menudo alum and Gonzalez Abella were together when Martin came out as gay in 2010. In 2011, when the singer accepted his Vito Russo Award at the GLAAD Media Awards, he thanked his partner in his speech.
“I definitely need to thank my parents for being so supportive, my mother and my dad for their unconditional love, and my friends, my family, my fans,” he said. “And my partner in crime and my boyfriend Carlos.”
