With Randy Travis still listed as critical, friends and fans pray
As country star Randy Travis recovered from Wednesday’s emergency surgery in the wake of a stroke brought on as a complication of his congestive heart failure, celebs in Nashville and beyond were sending their thoughts and prayers.
While no new information was coming from Camp Travis early Friday, doctors at Baylor told the Dallas Morning News that there were “no changes in his condition.”
The Grammy winner, 54, has been in critical condition since entering the hospital Sunday in McKinney, Texas, with heart problems. He was stabilized and moved the next day to the Heart Hospital Baylor Plano, for more specialized care.

Among those who have reached out are Josh Turner, the Oak Ridge Boys, Joe Nichols, Lyle Lovett, Kenny Rogers, Ray Price, Lee Greenwood and -- get this -- Chuck Norris, Travis’ rep told TMZ. George Jones’ widow visited as well, bringing recordings from her late husband’s catalog to play for the ailing singer, the website said. Travis recently recorded a tribute song to Jones that will be the first single from a new album expected this fall.
Signs reading “Pray for Randy, ‘One of Our Own’” were showing up in Travis’ adopted hometown of Tioga, Texas, pop. 803, according to WFAA.com. Nobody’s giving up the source of the signs.
And of course Twitter was home to more well wishes from the country music community. Fans as well, but we’ll just provide a taste of the famous folks’ thoughts here.
From Pam Tillis: “Randy travis never far from my thoughts right now, just waiting for some positive news and continue to pray for full recovery”
Tim McGraw, Martina McBride and Brad Paisley sent thoughts and prayers, with Paisley following up, “We’re all pulling for you Randy.”
“Sending healing strength and love to you this morning @randytravis,” tweeted Keith Urban.
And Lee Greenwood a specific thought: “God be with the medical team that’s working with @randytravis this evening.”
