Nicki Minaj on DJ Khaled’s marriage proposal: ‘He was kidding’
Nicki Minaj has finally spoken out about DJ Khaled’s very public MTV marriage proposal.
Guess what! They’re not getting married. Surprise!
Turns out the whole thing was a publicity stunt to promote the rapper’s single “I Wanna Be With You,” which features Minaj and will appear on his album “Symptoms of Success,” due out Sept. 24. Is any of this sounding familiar?

Well, it should. These are lyrics Khaled dropped in his heartfelt video proposal to Minaj last week in which he told the “Super Bass” MC that she was the one for him.
“I want to be honest with you. I love you. I like you. I want you to be mine. I’m here at MTV because it’s a worldwide network, and the only reason why I’m not telling you face-to-face is ‘cause I understand that you’re busy,” the Miami-based rapper said in the video.
“We got the same symptoms, we both suffering from success, you out there touring, you out there hustling, you out there making music, you out there winning. I understand. That’s why I feel like you need a man like me in your life that’s gonna take care of you and respect you.”
The 37-year-old then opened a box that he had been flashing about to reveal a 10-carat engagement ring worth $500,000.

Though the rapper insisted he was completely “serious” when he proposed to his label mate, Minaj took the whole thing with a grain of salt (disregarding what you may have seen on her ring finger).
“I was shocked just like the rest of the world, and I was cracking up laughing with the rest of the world, because Khaled is a master at what he does,” Minaj, 30, told Funkmaster Flex on Hot ’97 on Monday. She also said that she hadn’t spoken to Khaled about the ruse yet.
“Nobody in my real life took it seriously. Everybody just hit me like, ‘LOL. Yo, Khaled is crazy.’ Khaled is my brother, and Khaled was not serious with that damn proposal, ya’ll,” she added. “Please let it go. He was kidding. He’s not attracted to me. He doesn’t like me. We’re brother and sister.”
Khaled and Minaj went into social media overdrive to promote the single, with him posting what appears to be a single cover and Minaj sharing a short clip of herself rapping on the new track on Instagram.
“It was just another way for him to kind of give the world a glimpse on the feeling of this record,” she said.
So, judging from the video, sappy romantic music plays while he pours his heart out?
Win.
