Lindsay Lohan plays ‘pick a rehab, any rehab,’ rehires Holley
Lindsay Lohan just can’t do anything without drama, can she? Even checking into court-ordered rehab Thursday was fraught with theatrics.
Lohan had until Thursday to check into a “lockdown” rehab facility — one that wouldn’t allow her day passes out into the world — and provide proof to the court that she’d done so. And she finally did part of that, checking into the Betty Ford Center in Rancho Mirage late in the day, according to L.A. Now sources.
Of course, that wasn’t the original plan, which was a rehab facility in New York state, or even the backup plan, which was an outfit in Newport Beach, but it got done Thursday, so a warrant wasn’t issued for the “Liz & Dick” actress’ arrest.
The rehab stint is a result of Lohan’s plea deal in a June Porsche-versus-truck crash on PCH in Santa Monica, when she claimed not to be the driver. It comes with an order of 18 months of psychotherapy and 30 days of community labor, after Lohan’s no-contest pleas in March to misdemeanor reckless driving and providing false information to police.
And as of Friday we’ve had a casting change on the legal front, L.A. Now reported: New York attorney Mark Heller is out and L.A. veteran Shawn Chapman Holley is back on the marquee as the person entrusted to keep Lohan out of jail.
Heller is, of course, the one who told the judge Thursday, with a straight face, that his client was at that moment “ensconced in the bosom” of the Morningside Recovery rehab facility in Newport Beach when she was no such thing. Ensconced in the bosom of that Fry’s you can see from the 405 in Fountain Valley is more like it.
Morningside was Lilo’s last-minute, not-court-approved rehab of choice Thursday after she flew in the opposite direction from New York’s Seafield Center — possibly because that rehab, which was court-approved, does not allow its patients to smoke. Or maybe it was the clothing restrictions, allowing only a week’s worth of wardrobe changes.
Now it’s up to the court and prosecutors to decide, within a week, whether Betty Ford fills the bill to the court’s satisfaction. If it doesn’t, look for Lohan to be moving somewhere else — with luck, a bit more directly.
