Kristen Bell and Ellen discuss babies, childbirth and sloths

Kristen Bell stopped by “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Thursday to chat about her upcoming film, pregnancy and all things sloth.

“The House of Lies” actress, who was recently at the Sundance Film Festival to promote her latest film, “The Lifeguard,” said her baby with fiance Dax Shepard is due at the end of spring. And while they did find out the sex of the baby, they’re keeping it their little secret despite a potential hint that Shepard was only “thinking about all the off-roading he’ll have in his tiny partner.”

Cue the raised eyebrows. Bell recovered from the comment by saying you didn’t have to be a boy to off-road. “I think he’ll force even if it’s a sloth to off-road,” Bell said.

Despite Ellen’s prodding, Bell, 32, said she was going to hold off on naming the baby till she sees it. When asked whether she was planning to do a natural childbirth, Bell said she’s “got nothing to prove. No way.”

“I feel like when I arrive at the hospital, I want a glass of whiskey, I want the epidural in my back. And I want to get hit in the face with a baseball bat and just wake me up when it’s over, because I’ve seen the videos and it looks terrifying.”

But people do it again so it must not be that bad, Ellen said.

“I feel like maybe if you’ve had an enjoyable pregnancy,” Bell responded. “Because I’ve had a lot of really good dopamine hormones. My self-esteem has never been higher. When I look in the mirror, I think it’s like the reverse body dysmorphia. Because I can understand what my shape is but I see Brooke Shields and it doesn’t make a lick of sense but something that the baby is giving me hormonally is making me really giggly and happy.”

Speaking of things that make Bell giggly and happy! Remember that video of Bell having a panic attack over a sloth being at her birthday that went viral last year? Well Ellen had a surprise for Bell: a real-life sloth! A sloth named Lola. The surprise did not elicit the same emotional response it did in the video, nor the same teary breakdown Bell had when Ellen faked her out last year, but the actress was still pretty darn excited.

Ellen also gave her a basket of sloth-themed baby gifts. Bell’s reaction?

“Who cares about the baby!” she said as she stared lovingly at Lola.
