Kim Kardashian, Kanye West reportedly getting married this week

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are reportedly getting married sometime this week in Los Angeles -- but it would be a civil ceremony only, and one likely to be conducted privately.

But Kimye watchers, don’t despair: Plans for fancy nuptials in France apparently haven’t gone anywhere.

The couple have procured a marriage license, sources “connected with the couple” told TMZ on Tuesday. It’s reportedly a confidential license -- yes, there is such a thing, and a couple has to be over 18 and living together as spouses to get one -- which means no witnesses are required to be present at the ceremony. TMZ also said they wouldn’t have to be married at a courthouse, making it easier to keep things hush-hush.

The long-standing rumor has been that the couple would marry in France, but there’s a laundry list of requirements to get legally married there. Among them is a requirement that at least one of the parties be a resident of the town in which the civil ceremony is to take place for at least 40 days ahead of any vows being exchanged. And if a couple wants an official religious ceremony, a civil ceremony is still required in advance, according to the French Embassy in the U.S.

That’s if a couple wants everything marital to be stamped Made in France. But a couple could still be married legally in the U.S. and simply have a bang-up unofficial wedding ceremony and celebration overseas, and wind up American man and wife at the end of it all.

TMZ says the gala affair in France will come in about a month.

However, it won’t be at the Palace of Versailles, according to venue officials. “On 19th January @KimKardashian and @kanyewest visited the Palace of Versailles but they are not planning their wedding at the Palace,” the Palace of Versailles’ official Twitter account announced in late January.

About 100 guests are expected, according to E! News, which last week disputed a three-wedding report that claimed a civil wedding was on its way soon, quoting a source “close to Kimye” as saying, “No one knows anything in terms of details yet” and dissing the published rumors.

Radar Online did initially report that Kardashian had three dresses on tap, which would make sense. One for the civil ceremony in L.A., another for the wedding ceremony in Paris and a third for the reception.

Kardashian has been married twice before, first to music producer Damon Thomas and more famously to NBA player Kris Humphries. Her union with Humphries, an extravaganza that got its own reality-TV special, ended after only 72 days when the bride filed for divorce. By the time that contentious split became official 19 months later, Kardashian had already publicly celebrated the pending birth of North, her daughter with West.

It will be a first wedding for the rapper, who proposed to his reality-star bride on her birthday in October in grand style, taking over San Francisco’s AT&T Park, inviting the family and bringing in an orchestra for the occasion.
