Khloe Kardashian on fame, Kanye West, more ‘Khloe & Lamar’

Khloe Kardashian is all about her family’s business -- the money-making side of it and the personal side of it.

But that doesn’t mean she changes who she is to adhere to either. The reality TV star, the youngest of the three Kardashian sisters, doesn’t buy into the persona that people have boxed her into, nor the “toxic” media attention her family gets, she told the Associated Press.

“Once you start living in [that fame world], you can start believing it, and it’s just so bad for you. That’s not the real world. All of this one day will go away no matter who you are, and I need to be OK with who I am as myself and this doesn’t make or break me. This is wonderful and I love this ride but I’m also so blessed without it as well,” the 28-year-old fashionista said.

Her family’s claim to fame is the juggernaut E! series “Keeping Up With the Kardashians” and its many offshoots that showcase the clan’s over-the-the top lifestyle. Much of their initial media attention came in the mid-1990s from her late father Robert Kardashian’s involvement on the defense team in the O.J. Simpson criminal trial, and later from her older sister Kim Kardashian’s infamous sex tape in 2007. Talent manager Kris Jenner, Robert Kardashian’s ex-wife, managed to parlay all that media attention and tabloid fodder into a million-dollar franchise of TV shows, clothing lines, cosmetics, fragrances and books. (She’ll also have her own talk show this fall.)

But Khloe wouldn’t mind if it all went away.

“You always want what you don’t have, and you have to be really careful what you wish for. I genuinely love what we do. When that day comes, it will give me more time to do other stuff but I’m not begging for that day to come. I’m content either way.”

The spotlight has garnered her her fair share of false stories and “dumb” stories.

“There are literally millions to choose from!” she recently told the Huffington Post. “But I would say the dumbest thing I have heard, is that my dad isn’t my real dad.” (This bit of gossip resulted in a DNA test conducted on the E! series.)

Kardashian starred in her own TV spinoff series with husband Lamar Odom, the L.A. Clippers forward, and younger brother Rob Kardashian. And she says there’s more “Khloe & Lamar” to come even though she’s protective of how people think the show negatively influenced her husband’s basketball career.

“When my husband and I filmed Season 1, Lamar won Sixth Man of the Year, was the first [Los Angeles] Laker to do so, he won a gold medal, and he also won a championship ring for the Lakers. But the year he got traded [to the Dallas Mavericks], people wanted to say, ‘Oh, it’s because of the show.’ So, I was really irritated. This is my husband’s career, and I just didn’t like that someone would use this tool in a negative way, so I was like, ‘You know what? For the better of my husband’s career, I’m not going to let anyone use this against him.’ But, yes, it will hopefully come back sooner [rather] than later. Lamar loves doing the show.”

She and Odom tied the knot after only 30 days of dating and planned a wedding in nine days. It is a union many thought wouldn’t last, but this September they’ll be celebrating their fourth anniversary.

“Lamar and I say, ‘We don’t know what came over us. We can’t even explain it.’ Because we can’t explain it. I never understood when someone said ‘I just knew.’ And with every fiber of my being you couldn’t have told me no. ... I just felt it — and same with Lamar. Thank God it worked. It very well could’ve gone the other way.”

AP writer Alicia Rancilio points out that Kardashian and her sisters Kourtney and Kim are all currently involved with men who don’t have any siblings. Perhaps that’s what makes them more easily enveloped by their larger-than-life new family?

“We’ve known Kanye [West] for years, so he’s known what our family is like. He definitely does his own thing. Scott [Disick] works with us. Lamar is away a lot [with basketball], and Kanye has his own career. But, Kanye’s there for holidays and all the stuff that matters,” she said of the rapper, who has been criticized for seeming absent during much of her sister’s pregnancy.

Eldest sister Kourtney has two children with longtime boyfriend Scott Disick and Kim is expecting her first child, a baby girl, with rapper West this summer. This current season of the reality series has expanded by adding stepbrother Brody Jenner and promising to also delve into stepfather Bruce Jenner’s family ties.

Khloe, who has been doing the media rounds to promote the new season of “Keeping Up With the Kardashians,” which premiered last weekend, has been busy demystifying rumors about the clan, including whether her mom was splitting from her stepdad.

“Well, they’re not having problems but they still like to live apart, which is definitely different,” she said during a Wednesday appearance on “The Tonight Show.”

“In my house, there is a man room for Lamar. A room, not a different house. So I think they took my idea and ran with it and they got another house. And Bruce stays there sometimes...” she added. “It’s in the same state, yes, different city,” the outspoken, youngest sister in the trio clarified. “I’m not for that, but you know, to each their own.”
