Katie Holmes doesn’t want TomKat era to ‘define’ her
Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise finalized their divorce more than two years ago, but the breakup still remains a topic of interest due to the tight lip around the high-profile split.
The actress appears on the cover of People magazine this week and addressed her divorce simply by asserting that she’s moved on from that part of her life.
“I don’t want that moment in my life to define me, to be who I am,” the “Dawson’s Creek” alum said. “I don’t want that to be what I’m known as. I was an actor before, an actor during and an actor now.”
So don’t keep calling her Tom Cruise’s ex, alright? But “Suri’s mom” seems to be OK. More on that in a bit...
The 35-year-old was already popular pre-Cruise thanks to her WB drama, which also launched the careers of costars James Van Der Beek, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams. But she definitely sky-rocketed to fame after being linked to the A-lister.
Their relationship lives in infamy courtesy of Cruise’s “Oprah” couch-jumping stunt.
Cruise and Holmes wed in 2006 then announced their split in June 2012. They swiftly finalized the proceedings the following month with very little fanfare. Cruise has never openly discussed the split and Holmes only vaguely alludes to it in magazine interviews. They have one daughter together, Suri Cruise, 8, who Holmes says “means everything to me.”
“I’m learning every day, and I have been since the minute I became a mom,” she added. “My patience has grown, but between 4 and 6 p.m. ... I mean, wow. Between tickle fights and glitter art, I try to throw in some manners along the way.”
The former Broadway actress said she “doesn’t have any fear now” and is ready for new challenges, which align with her next career moves: She’ll reprise her role as Jackie O. in another “Kennedys” miniseries and is set to make her directorial debut with “All We Had.”
In other Cruise news, reports romantically linking him to starlet Lindsay Lohan have been debunked by both her rep and Cruise sources via Gossip Cop.
Sounds like more than one person dodged a bullet there.
