Katie Holmes talks expanding family, rough 2012 in Allure

Katie Holmes is willing to expand her little family.

“I don’t know. I’m open to it,” the actress tells Allure brightly.

However, she’s been linked to few suitors, save for a rumored (and debunked) dalliance with actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

Tom Cruise’s ex-wife and mother of stylish 6-year-old Suri Cruise is the mag’s balmy April cover girl. She strips down for the mag’s pictorials (a la her topless Iris jewelry ad campaign) and is opening up a bit about what the future holds for her.

The past year has been a tough one for the girl-next-door-turned-A-lister. The actress’ high-profile divorce from Cruise, whom she married in 2006, launched her back into the spotlight. And her Broadway drama “Dead Accounts” closed in January, seven weeks earlier than expected, after receiving mixed and poor reviews.

“I hope this is a peaceful year for a lot of people in the world. When you look back on the last year, there were a lot of tragedies -- Hurricane Sandy, the Connecticut shooting. I ... I just hope it’s a good year for everyone,” the 34-year-old told Allure.

She obviously has a much more optimistic outlook for this year, even for herself, though she wouldn’t admit it straightforwardly. “A lot of people have gone through a lot of stuff,” she told the mag with a smile.

As for “Dead Accounts,” it seems like she took on the role of skeptical Lorna in Theresa Rebeck’s play as a means to an end.

“I was open to -- well, to whoever wanted me,” she said. “But it was always my goal to make it back to the stage.”

The brunet is the face and co-owner of Alterna Haircare and she’s the first-ever celebrity face of Bobbi Brown cosmetics. She’s also sharing some of her style and beauty secrets with the mag, specifically a quote from her mom that’s stuck with her since childhood.

“She said, ‘You may be pretty, and you may be talented, but nobody will remember that if you’re mean.’”
