Looking to end your week on an upbeat note? Then read no further! Seriously, um, read no further, ‘cause we’re about to learn how Katie Couric came thisclose to having sexy times with Larry King.

Seems Katie and Larry went out on a date in Washington, D.C., years ago, when she was about 30 and he was 112 (OK, he’s about 23 years older than she is, but you get the idea). It was during a period in her life, she told Jimmy Kimmel on his show Thursday night, when she was going out with anyone who asked, because “you learn something” every time you’re with someone new.

They headed out for an Italian dinner, and he ordered heart-healthy because he’d just had bypass surgery. Then on the way home, he decided to bypass her place in favor of his place, also apparently due to matters of the heart.

“And I’m like, Dear Cosmo, what do I do?” Couric recalled. “I’m in this crisis situation. I was only 30. I just could not figure out how to extricate myself from it.”

King’s place, it turned out, was loaded with tributes to, well, him. Because nothing says sexy like a key to the city.

“So we sat there,” she said, “and, what can I say — he lunged.”

“Incredible,” Kimmel said.

“And I, I almost started — I love Larry, by the way, I do love him — I started laughing a little bit because the whole situation was like out of a bad Lifetime movie. So I said, ‘Larry, you’re such an interesting, nice man, but I would like to meet someone a little closer to my age.’”

Talk about your sad trombones.

“And he said, ‘That’s OK — because when I like, I really like.’”

According to Katie, Larry remembers the evening differently, winding up instead at her place. “He tells the story that we were going to go upstairs but I had a roommate.

“I didn’t have a roommate.”

Incidentally, King’s seventh and current wife, Shawn, is two years younger than Couric. Guess the keys to the city worked on someone.
